...inspiring and guiding students through teamwork
Mrs. Cannell
This year I am looking forward to inspiring and guiding students in math, language arts and social studies. I received my teaching degree from The Ohio State University, GO BUCKS! This is my 21st year of teaching. I live in Sunbury with my family. My husband Jim is an Assistant Chief for the Columbus Division of Fire. All three of my children graduated from Big Walnut. Johnny is a graduate of the University of Mount Union and is currently a Columbus Firefighter. He married a wonderful young lady, and now there is another Mrs. Cannell teaching first grade at Souders! My son Evan is a United States Marine and is currently stationed in Virginia with his wife and son. Natalie is a senior at Ohio University majoring in elementary education. There will be another teacher in the family soon. In my free time, I enjoy traveling to beaches and spending time with family and friends. I am looking forward to working with another great group of students this year at BWE!
Mrs. Tuel
I will be inspiring and guiding your child to reach his/her maximum potential in math and social studies. This is my 8th year at BWE and my 21st year teaching. I graduated from the University of Muskingum with a BA in Elementary Education/Special Education. I have had the opportunity to teach many grade levels throughout my career. 4th grade is definitely my favorite:) My husband, Greg, and I have two daughters. Camie graduated from Xavier University with a degree in English; she is considering pursuing a graduate degree and in the meantime working for our family business. Coley graduated from the University of Dayton; with a major in mechanical engineering. I enjoy walking, yoga, gardening, relaxing on my porch swing, and spending time with my family at our cottage in northeast Ohio. This is going to be a FABULOUS year in 4th grade at BWE!
Ms. Isler
As the newest 4th grade member of the BWE team, I will be inspiring and guiding fourth graders this year in language arts and science. I have a BA in Strategic Communication and a Masters in Early Childhood Education both from The Ohio State University. This will be my first year in Big Walnut and my first year teaching. I had the opportunity to student teach in both 1st and 4th grade, and absolutely fell in love with 4th! I will be getting married to my wonderful fiancé, Brandon, in November and will then become Mrs. Sinram :) We have a 2-year-old Golden Retriever named Dexter who loves to steal our socks and snuggle. In my spare time, I love to exercise, read, run along the Olentangy, and spend time with friends and family. I'm so excited to be joining the BWE family and cannot wait for the great year ahead!
Mrs. Barno
I am the 3rd and 4th grade Intervention Specialist at BWE this year. I have taught for Big Walnut for the past 11 years and have been at Souders, BWMS, BWHS and GRE. Before coming to Big Walnut, I taught in Cincinnati for 10 years. I have a Bachelor's degree from Miami University and a Master's from The Ohio State University. I have been married to my husband, Dave, for 23 years and we have one son. Jacob is 16 years old and attends Gahanna Lincoln High School. I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, going to movies and plays, traveling and spending time with my family. I am excited about my new teaching adventure at BWE.
Mrs. Leinweber
I am the Gifted Intervention Specialist at BWE this year for third and fourth grade gifted students. I have been teaching in Big Walnut for 14 years. I have taught in all of the Big Walnut elementary schools, and even the middle school throughout the years! I have a Bachelor's degree from Bethany College in English. I obtained my teaching certificate from Ohio Dominican University. I obtained my Masters Degree in Curriculum Development from Ashland University. My husband Kevin and I have been married for 15 years, and we have a son named Blaise, who just turned 3 and a half. In our spare time, my family all plays music and sings together, even Blaise, who has his own electric guitar, bongos, tambourine and harmonica...and he plays them all! I teach piano lessons in my spare time and my hobbies are cooking and hiking in parks.
